The Wahat Al Karama in Abu Dhabi is a must-visit for those interested in the UAE’s history. The Memorial, designed by British artist Idris Khan, is the centrepiece of Wahat Al Karama in Abu Dhabi. An imposing public art structure made up of 31 massive leaning tablets clad in aluminium, the symbolism behind the Memorial is clear: each tablet leans against the other, portraying the unity, solidarity and mutual support that bind the leadership of the UAE with its citizens, residents and the servicemen and women who protect them. If you’re coming to Abu Dhabi, don’t miss this incredible sight.

Wahat Al Karama is comprised of four sections:

The Visitor Centre:
A unique, interactive experience provides an opportunity to learn more about the nation's heroes, the Memorial, as well as the UAE's diplomatic and humanitarian efforts.

The Memorial Plaza:
The second station in Wahat Al Karama contains a spectacular round, 2mm shallow pool that offers a breathtaking reflection of the Memorial and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, located opposite Wahat Al Karama.

The Memorial:
The centrepiece of Wahat Al Karama, and its third external station. The symbolism behind it is clear – its 31 aluminum-clad panels lean against each other, portraying the unity, solidarity and synergy between the UAE's leadership and its citizens.

The Pavilion of Honor:
The journey ends here, the last station in Wahat Al Karama, containing the names of all heroes, inscribed on panels made from innovatively recycled pieces from armoured vehicles previously used in service with the UAE Armed Forces.

While you’re at Wahat Al Karama, make sure to check the schedule and attend one of their daily or weekly events! Go on a walking tour and enjoy the beauty of the Memorial and the picturesque reflection pool. If you’re there on the weekends, catch the Wahat Al Karama Ceremony – a show that brings together a salute to the flag ceremony, complete with a musical band and horse riding. Stay till the end and take some photos with the horses!
